All this talk about banning bullining eh? American education is a rathole. Its poor, unfulfilling and untimately helps nobody. This is mainly due to a dont-care attitude from the pupils who are undisciplined and poorly behaved.
Over here, I go to a school that has lasted for 165 years, educating boys and turning them into men. The only difference between then and now is that corporal punishment has been banned.
When we first went to the school in grade 8 (or second form) we were effectively targets for the older boys. We had to slave for a prefect for the enitre year doing things like folding clothes, making coffee, organising books etc. We had to say please after every sentence when addressing ANYBODY older than us. We had to wait at doors for older boys. We couldn’t walk on grass.
If we disobeyed the prefects, we were sent on a punishment called running. Basically we stand outside the prefects study at attention and older pupils mocked us and prefects sent us on errands.
Each year, you received more privelages in the school until grade 12. If you were younger you were fair game for the older boys. It worked like that for a and a half centuries and continues to this day.
In this way, bullying from the same grade is suicidal because the ‘bully’s’ themselves would get bullied by older boys. Having extreme,y strict disciplinary conditions helped a lot. Jeez, I got running because my shoelace was ALMOSt untied once.
Our school is a public one and yet we haven’t had a failure for over 50 years. Pupils of the school are brilliantly behaved and we remain one of the finest schools in the country.
All this because, the a form of bullying or initiation has been applied. And if you think we are unhappy, you’re wrong. We love it. Our turn will come.
If you ban bullying, you are not properly setting up children for the real world. I can tell you now, the monsters in our school called prefects are nothing compared to what the real world holds.
